Have fun finding out about which fungi is good to eat! Not a course for mycologists, this weekend course is aimed at people who want to reap the rich fungal harvest that is usually ignored each autumn.

Visiting a number of sites in the area of the Centre, you will be shown where to look for and how to identify the larger fungi. Particular emphasis will be place on thoroughly learning the few poisonous and harmful species and exploration of groups of fungi which are good to eat.

Part of each day will involve cooking our best finds, giving you a chance to try some more sophisticated recipes using wild fungi.

Noel Jackson, Head of Education at the Centre for LIFE, Newcastle, is an enthusiastic naturalist and keen foodie who co-leads the country's biggest and longest-running foray and fry-up. He is an experienced teacher who has led many courses for both adults and children.
