This is the largest plant family in the world and the yellow ones are particularly difficult to separate. Using a range of lateral and dichotomous keys, John helps students to sort our their hawksbeards from their cats ears and gain confidence on identification of what were traditionally known as the yellow composites.

John Swindells holds the Birmingham University MSc in Biological Recording. He is Chairman of the Wild Flower Society and a Vice-President of the London Natural History Society and has a particular interest in urban wild plants.
