  Professional Development Course.

This intensive course is designed for professional surveyors to improve their botany and vegetation community ecology. There will be particular focus on plants that are important indicator species for Phase 1 habitats and Phase 2 NVC communities, especially grasses, sedges and common bryophytes. Field work will include upland heathland, mire and a range of grasslands. The course will also cover survey methodology and using keys and how to interpret the results. The course will be supported by professionally produced packs and evaluation sessions, aiming to ensure an integrated approach to botanical surveying - essential for all new surveyors involved in Phase 1 and NVC.

Clare O'Reilly is a trained teacher and a professional ecologist. She has a botany degree and is co-author of the new edition of the Wild Flower Key. Her freelance practice, Ptyxis Ecology, specialises in vegetation survey and assessment.
