This course will provide you with the groundwork for detailed community analyses. Diversity, species richness and how to analyse these simply will lead into simlarity indices and hierarchical cluster analysis. The course will cover use of dendrograms indices of biodiversity, and show how to determine if differences in diversity are statistically different. The basics of multivariate analyses, TWINSPAN and polar ordination will be covered leaving particiapnts confifenst and competant to apporach their own data analysis using basic spreadsheet packages. This is a computer based course where software and computers will be provided.
Dr Mark Gardener is a freelance biologists and tutor and works for the Open University and the University of Birmingham. He has a lifetime interest in biology and data analysis and teaches on both residential schools and distance learning programmes. He has written educational software to help students understand and apply statistics to their data for both ongoing research projects and academic dissertations.
