This afternoon and evening course will cover the biology of bats and their environmental requirements in general with particular focus on British bat species; it assumes no previous knowledge of bats. The course will cover the identification of bats in the hand and echo-location. It will provide a foundation for anyone wanting to train for a Roost Visitors' licence. The evening session will feature a walk at a local lake, using bat detectors to find and identify bats in flight. A limited number of bat detectors will be available for loan but it would be helpful if those who have access to a detector could bring one with them.

This bat course runs from 11.30am to 10.30pm and includes dinner at a local public house. Please bring a packed lunch.

Roger Havard does a wide variety of bat work in the areas covered by the Hertfordshire and Middlesex, London and Essex Bat groups. He also does bat survey work in North Wales. Roger holds a Natural England Training Licence - training people for Natural England Roost Visitors' Licences in Essex and London.
