Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

1963 Gill Smith, Leeds - FSC Preston Montford

Preston Montford was the venue for my A Level Geography field course in 1963.

One memory was of two rather up-market participants who were heard to say while looking at glacial scenery in a young river valley "Oh look, aren't those spurs so divinely interlocking!"

A more lasting impact for me was undertaking a village traffic count during the course that helped me to decide on town planning as a career. It did not stop there, as I married a geographer/ planner/educationalist, who is an FSC Trustee, and our two sons both read geography for their first degree and became a town planner and a landscape architect respectively.
