Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

late 1980s Noel Jackson, Ebchester - FSC Preston Montford

I have three happy memories from the late eighties from Preston Montford.
  • Frank Perring running a course on composites.  We spent the week looking for the biggest yellow composite we could find.  As Frank rightly predicted, it turned out to be spiny sow thistle.
  • John Heath was enormously generous with his time and expertise and persuaded everyone to join the Entomologial Society and to bite the bullet and do the microscope work to separate critical pairs of moths.
  • Bob Stebbing was just inspiring with his knowledge and love of bats

All three helped confirm my interests and excitement for Natural History in all its guises.  I can't think of any organization which puts keen amateurs with the inspirational greats.  Long may it continue.
