Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

At Millport, all of our food is prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients with the emphasis in providing healthy and hearty meals for all of our guests. We have a variety of hot wholesome meals including a vegetarian option plus we have homemade cakes which are delicious to eat as an afternoon snack. If you have any special food requirement please let a member of staff know before you arrive at Millport Centre. Don’t forget to bring a lunch box and a flask for any day trips out.

We believe at Millport that all our guests should feel welcome and at home. As we realise some of our younger guests can feel vulnerable as it’s their first time away from loved ones. We strive to achieve the best and that’s why we have friendly staff that are always on hand to help.

Room MIMillport Field Centre is located on the eastern shore of the Isle of Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde. Millport is easily accessible being just an 8 minute ferry crossing from the mainland. This small unique island is surrounded by a rich wildlife and marine habitats. The Centre is metres away from the sea; some bedrooms have spectacular sea views, so don’t forget to bring your binoculars as you may have a chance to see seals, porpoise and a wide variety of sea birds.

Millport has two accommodation blocks the Elmhurst Building and the Millott Building. We have sixty twin rooms throughout both blocks and two single rooms. Twenty-four of the rooms are located on the ground floor and by the end of 2016 all bedrooms will be en-suite. All bedrooms have hanging and storage space, bedside table and a desk. We pride ourselves in having clean, comfortable and cosy bedrooms.

In the main building we have perfect spaces for relaxing after a hard day out in the field; whether you are an adult of student. We have adult lounge and bar with comfortable sofas with views of the sea. We also have the student common room with comfortable sofas and TV and a games room next door with a pool table, giant chess/checkers, vending machine and giant Jenga. Board games and other games are available as well.  Upstairs in the main building is our library filled with education books and desk space, for anyone who wants to do extra research.

We have seven work rooms some of which are labs with special equipment. All have whiteboards with ceiling-mounted data projectors, Smart or Mimio interactive whiteboard facilities and internet access for Wi-Fi enabled laptops. We also have two conference rooms, one in the main room and another in the Allan Building that can be used for big groups of people.

Millport is also home to the Robertson Museum and Aquarium which is open daily to the public from 11am-4pm with a wide range of activities on offer for all ages.
