Countries

UK

Funder:

North West Regional Assembly

Project Summary

To produce a Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Regional Teaching Resource that will inspire and support teachers, pupils and the school community at both KS2 and KS3 to investigate and improve their school environment. We shall achieve this by:

  • Creating KS2 and KS3 resources that go beyond the ‘usual responses to climate change’ and build a real sense of excitement in positive futures that sustainable development offers.

  • Using existing tools for measuring school performance in every use and climate change

  • Providing clear guidance at a personal and school level on effective decision-making and action for environmental improvement

  • Recommending how the teaching resources can be packaged to explore the exciting potential sustainable development offers

  • Reviewing existing provision to ensure the new resources build on what is already there

  • Developing resources that reflect the locality of the North West and issues specific to the history, geography and economy of the region.

The Outputs produced:

  • Database of teaching resources and information sources focusing on the North West on an Access database

  • Curriculum maps showing requirements and opportunities for embedding climate change and sustainable energy in electronic format

  • Recommendations of other key stages and HEI in electronic format

  • A teachers tool kit for Key Stage 2 and 3 that explores climate change in a context of global systemic change
