This course will cover the basic classification, identification, structure and function of mosses, liverworts and ferns, including microscope work. The programme will be flexible and suitable for both complete beginners and those with a working knowledge who require further guidance. In addition to the tutor's illustrated keys, copies of British Mosses and Liverworts by Watson will be available for use on the course. It would be helpful to have your own copy of the new fully colour-illustrated Mosses and Liverworts of Britain and Ireland, a Field Guide produced by British Bryological Society. 2009. This Mosses, Liverworts and Ferns course runs from 09.30am to 17.00pm on both days and includes lunch at a local public house. Transport is required to field sites.
Ken Adams is BSBI and Essex Field Club: Higher Plant, Fern and Bryophyte recorder for Essex. He co-authored the second Flora of Essex (1974) and is working on a third Flora of the county.
