Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Bird Songs and Calls for Beginners: The Late Spring Weekend

  • Non-Resident: £164
  • Shared Room: £210
  • Sole Occupancy: £230

Thank you for your interest in this course. There are places still available on the course but unfortunately the accommodation in the Centre is now fully booked. If you would consider attending as a non-resident, staying in a local B&B, please follow to this link for a list of local B&Bs in the Flatford area. If one of the providers has availability for you, please contact us to reserve your place on the course and then confirm with the B&B.

If you enjoy listening to birds, but are frustrated trying to separate all the different species, this course will certainly help develop your knowledge and confidence.

Listening in the field and reviewing sounds then and later using smartphone apps, MP3 devices and DVDs will help you to memorise those elusive sound patterns.

See also 13 Apr-15 Apr for our first beginners course, (The Early Spring Weekend) concentrating more on resident species. There will be more summer visitors around for this course in May, but fewer residents in song.

Please note that each of these weekends is a stand-alone course in its own right. You do NOT have to attend both of them, but if you do you will increase your opportunities for learning bird sounds and will gain an excellent grounding in this fascinating aspect of birding.

The content is also appropriate for anyone wishing to contribute to their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.

Steve Piotrowski is one of the most experienced birders in Suffolk and author of the acclaimed The Birds of Suffolk.

He is an environmental consultant working mainly on ways of increasing the populations of threatened and protected species such as barn owl, turtle dove and tree sparrow. He has worked as an Associate Tutor with FSC at Flatford Mill for over 10 years.

‘Brilliant tutor, knowledgeable and patient, very attentive. Relaxed and humorous’. Course participant April 2011.
