This course has been designed for ecologists, rangers or land managers who are looking to undertake professional great crested newt surveys. It will cover species identification and ecology, survey techniques, the habitat suitability index (HSI) and will include opportunities to practise netting, bottle trapping, torch and egg searching. Please note this course is not based at an FSC Centre but will be held at Rixton Claypits Local Nature Reserve, Warrington, Cheshire, WA3 6EB
David Orchard is the Ponds Project Officer with Amphibian and Reptile Conservation. He has been involved with great crested newt survey training since 2006 and is county recorder for amphibians and reptiles in Lancashire.
