An introduction to digital photography, taking advantage of the spring scenery and light of the Yorkshire Dales.
This course is intended for people who have a digital camera (compact or SLR) and wish to learn more about the main controls and features of their cameras, and how to use them to take better photographs. The main elements of the course will be:
- understanding the main controls on your camera and how these can be used both to ensure high quality images and also creatively to add impact to your pictures
- what makes a good photograph - aspects of design and composition
- out and about in the wonderful Yorkshire Dales taking photographs - putting theory into practice
- reviewing the pictures you have taken to see what works and what doesn't.
The course will assume no prior knowledge or expertise, so will be very suitable for beginners.
Depending on time and wishes of participants (not forgetting the weather!) it may be possible to look at aspects of downloading and storing pictures as well as some simple aspects of image manipulation.
Margaret and Rod Smith are experienced photography tutors who live in Horton in Ribblesdale, at the heart of the famous 'Three Peaks'. Following a successful career as freelance photographers in Bradford, since moving to the Dales they have taught Photography at Craven College in Skipton and Settle, a range of photography courses for adults at various venues around the Craven district, and classes and workshops for the Yorkshire Dales National Park. They now also run their own classes and events as well as offering private tuition.
Examples of their work can be seen on the website www.dalesphotos.co.uk
