Spend a week on this photography course, capturing the landscape of the Yorkshire Dales. This area is widely held in high regard by many as a special place containing a fantastic variety of features, including wild, unspoilt moorland and hills as well as gentle valleys and picturesque villages. The area around Malham includes much of interest which will keep even the keenest photographer busy for a long time, from the obvious attractions of such well known places as Malham Cove and Gordale Scar to the plants and rocks under your feet.
On the basis that ‘nothing beats doing it’, much of the week will be spent out and about taking photographs. We will aim to visit a number of locations around Malham, with perhaps one or two trips further afield. Many of the visits will involve walking for perhaps one or two miles on tracks and footpaths with some rough ground, so stout footwear and waterproofs will be essential. The visits will be planned to provide a variety of photographic opportunities, which will test and develop your photographic skills to the limit - you have been warned!
As well as the practical business of taking photographs there will also be time for advice and guidance on getting the best out of your equipment and practical work on computer manipulation of images. A further very important aspect of the course will be time spent reviewing and discussing the pictures you have taken.
While much of the course will apply equally to both film and digital cameras, for anyone choosing to use a film camera the maximum benefit would be gained by also using a digital camera so that they could play a full part in the discussions and the computer manipulation.
Margaret and Rod Smith live in Horton in Ribblesdale, at the heart of the famous 'Three Peaks'. Prior to moving there, they had a successful career as freelance photographers in Bradford. Since moving to the Dales they have taught 'A' Level Photography at Craven College in Skipton and Settle, a range of Photography courses for adults at various venues around the Craven district, and classes and workshops for the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Examples of their work can be seen on the website www.dalesphotos.co.uk
