Flies are a fascinating and ecologically important group of insects. The British fauna comprises over 7,000 species and can be daunting without help at the beginning. This course is aimed at the absolute beginner who would like to learn more about how to identify flies. It is designed to help students with the basic principles of identification and recording and will draw on preserved material collected specifically for the purpose.
The course will be laboratory based using microscopes and sets of specially prepared specimens representing a cross-section of the British Diptera families, but there will also be visual presentations and a set of keys with colour illustrations has been specially prepared for participants.
Roger Morris and Allan Stubbs, are both well-known dipterists and leading members of Dipterists Forum.
