The botanical illustration course is designed for beginners and those with more experience. Using the plants growing in the landscapes of Snowdonia which surround the Centre, participants will have an opportunity to develop the techniques of painting detailed studies of plants and fruit, flowers and foliage,
Watercolour and pencil will be used on the course, and the mixing of colours, particularly greens, will be of importance. We will be painting in the workroom after finding subject material in the grounds. Students may bring their own material if they wish. Kay Rees-Davis, a local professional botanical artist, will provide tuition on a one-to-one basis with guidance from the initial drawing to the use of colour and the completion of the work. Demonstrations will be given and examples of botanical illustrations will be examined and discussed.
Kay Rees-Davies is a freelance botanical artist. She exhibits regularly with the Society of Botanical Artists and is the President of the North Wales Society of Fine Art.
Based in North Wales, Kay is an experienced teacher, her work is in a number of collections, including the Lindley Library of the RHS and she is an RHS Gold Medalist.
