Weather permitting, we will trap moths at the National Trust’s beautiful Freshwater West sand dunes and stunning Stackpole Head cliff top habitat. This will be in addition to trapping in the excellent wooded grounds of the Centre at Orielton. This course is aimed at anyone who would like to learn more about identifying moths from coastal habitats. Their ecology and habitat needs will also be considered, particularly looking at what makes these habitats important to a specialist group of moth species. Traps will be set each night in a variety of habitats and the moths trapped will be identified during the day - there will be slide presentations as well as practical help from the tutor. It is aimed at total beginners wishing to study these moths as well as people with more advanced knowledge, but whatever your skill level, it will be designed to stretch you. Please note that this course finishes at 3pm on Tuesday 25 July. Please contact us if you wish to stay an extra night.
Dave Grundy is an experienced naturalist and wildlife consultant specialising in bird, butterfly and moth surveying. He has a particular interest in micro moths and regularly leads training courses throughout the UK with both beginners and more advanced participants.
