This two day training workshop offers participants an insight into the practical elements of running an Outdoor Learning programme in the Early Years sector (3-12yrs). Based at Tollymore Field Studies Centre, which is in Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland your tutor will provide you with the skills you need to effectively use nature as a resource, while utilising the natural environment as a stimulating outdoor classroom.
The course programme will focus on practical skills and knowledge, with emphasis on planning, weather, risk assessments, health and safety, nature art, woodland eco-systems, shelter building, fire lighting, cutting tools, journeying/navigation, knot work and natural playscapes. The weekend will be structured around experience based learning, allowing participants to enjoy a hands on, practical approach to outdoor learning whilst working in small groups or pairs.
No prior outdoor learning experience is necessary and all outdoor waterproof clothing, including wellies, is provided.
Upon completion, participants will receive a FSC Certificate of Attendance.
This course runs from 10:00 on day one, finishing by 16:30 on day two. All food is included.
This course will be run by Centre staff with years of experience in outdoor learning and environmental education. The course tutor will have direct experience leading outdoor learning programmes for 3-12 year olds, and has facilitated a range of adult training courses in this area.
