As an FSC member you can help support our mission...

...to bring environmental understanding to all

The FSC is an independent educational charity formed in 1943 to help people discover, explore, understand and be inspired by the natural environment.

Over the last 60 years the FSC has touched the hearts and minds of individuals of all ages through fieldwork and courses at our network of field centres, work overseas and the production of publications and other educational resources.

As a registered charity, the FSC receives no statutory funding. We therefore depend on membership and fees charged for our courses and other services to support the work we do.

By becoming a member, you can help us to reach even more people.

Lifelong learning the FSC way

When people ask us why they should care about fieldwork the best answer we can give is point at the many people who tell us that fieldwork has changed their lives. Here are some examples:

The most wonderful and exciting part was being on that hill and sketching a picture. The view was so hilly and I felt so relaxed.

Thinking back to my school days, I can recall quite a small proportion of the thousands of hours I sepnt in classroom lessons, but can vividly remember the visits, fieldtrips and residential work carried out.
Chris Millican, Head of Centre, Orielton

The field course I went on was at Dale Fort in 1959 and I can still remember the delights of beach and rock pool exploration ... it has given me a lifelong passion for wildlife conservation and a fascination with natural history.
Lesley Evans, FSC member

The most exciting thing we did was a week at Flatford Mill in the Easter Holidays of 1947. We went out each day to a different environment. I went on to study botany at university and later became an ecologist.
