Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Lichen courses for all

The Field Studies Council (FSC) is offering a chance to learn about lichens with a series of special one-day courses starting next month. Run in association with the British Lichen Society Introducing Lichens 1 will include field excursions around the Centres and their surroundings, talks and identification skills.

Lichens are fascinating life forms which can be found in many types of habitat and this introductory course aims to introduce some of the more common species to anyone who is keen to learn more. Each day will be led by a member of the British Lichen Society with extensive knowledge and a passion for their subject and promises to be an enjoyable and informative experience.

The FSC ran these courses for the first time last year and had a great attendance, with really positive feedback. For those who enjoy this first day, or already have some knowledge of lichens, there will also be follow-on one-day courses Introducing Lichens 2 taking place from the end of March.

There are several FSC Centres offering these courses including Orielton in Pembrokeshire and Malham Tarn in the Yorkshire Dales. Each course costs just £35 for the day and offers a unique opportunity for anybody, from those with no experience to people who already have an interest in lichens.
