Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Young Darwin Scholarship applications open

FSC has opened applications for its 2018 Young Darwin Scholarship scheme, which aims to inspire and support the next generation of naturalists.

The initiative welcomes 15 young people each year to attend a five day residential and receive ongoing support from FSC including further trips and discounts on FSC training.

Head of Centre at FSC Preston Montford Adrian Pickles explains:
‘The Young Darwins will stay with us at Preston Montford for their residential in August. The centre is close to Shrewsbury, the birthplace of Charles Darwin, as well as having large and wildlife-rich grounds making it the perfect place to enthuse them.’

90 young people have been part of the scheme since it started and comments from participants last year included:

‘I loved learning from people of my own age. The people we met were really inspiring.’

‘What the FSC’s Young Darwin Scholarship has taught me above anything else is there will always be more to learn about nature and the trick is to never stop discovering.’

Applications are open from now until the closing date on 22 June 2018. The Young Darwin Scholarship is open to 16-19 year olds with a keen interest in the natural world. 85% of the cost is covered by the scholarship so just a £45 contribution is required for those selected for the scheme.
