Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

OCR GCSE Geography Controlled Assessment

These courses conduct geography fieldwork to enable students to plan and prepare for the GCSE controlled assessment; on all programmes, students will start to produce a portfolio to take back to school/college. This can be done on its own, over three days, or over five days with additional activities.

Controlled Assessment

OCR A: Producing the Student Portfolio for Controlled Assessment3 day

Students will research and undertake fieldwork in an environment in order to start to prepare their portfolio to take forward to the high control 'write up' phase of their controlled assessment. Students will undertake primary fieldwork to cover Unit A672: You as a Global Citizen - the impact of our decisions. This short course will cover all aspects of the research and data collection to start to create a portfolio to take back to school or college.

OCR B: Producing the Student Portfolio for Controlled Assessment3 day

Students will research and undertake fieldwork in an appropriate environment in order to prepare their portfolio to take forward to the high control 'write up' phase of their controlled assessment. Students will undertake primary fieldwork to cover Unit B562: Geographical Enquiry - Fieldwork Focus. This short course will cover all aspects of the research and data collection for the creation of a portfolio to take back to school or college.

Controlled Assessment + Write up

These courses enable teachers to quickly and easily deliver the full GCSE geography fieldwork controlled assessment and write up at an FSC Centre. There is also a case study day within the programme, allowing students to experience another environment and practice their enquiry skills; this should ensure they get the best possible opportunity to prepare for the controlled assessment.

OCR A: Full Write-up Controlled Assessment5 day

Students will research and undertake fieldwork in an appropriate environment in order to prepare their portfolio and to undertake under high control conditions the 'write up' phase of their controlled assessment. Students will undertake primary fieldwork to cover Unit A672: You as a Global Citizen - the impact of our decisions. This course will cover all aspects of the research and data collection necessary for the creation of a portfolio and will produce a finished controlled assessment to take back to school or college in electronic or paper format.

Students will research and undertake fieldwork in an appropriate environment in order to prepare their portfolio to take forward to the high control 'write up' phase of their controlled assessment. Students will undertake primary fieldwork to cover Unit B562: Geographical Enquiry - Fieldwork Focus. This course will cover all aspects of the research and data collection for the creation of a portfolio to take back to school or college.  In addition, students will undertake investigations to support understanding of other areas of the specification.

Controlled Assessment + Adventure Activities

OCR A: Producing the Student Portfolio for Controlled Assessment and Adventure Activities5 day

Students will research and undertake fieldwork in an appropriate environment in order to start to prepare their portfolio to take forward to the high control 'write up' phase of their controlled assessment. The field work will be based on the pre-released titles from OCR A. This course will cover all aspects of the preparation, research, planning, processing and presentation to start to create a portfolio to take back to school or college.

In addition, students will undertake one full day and two part day adventure and environmental activities to support the secondary curriculum dimensions and Every Child Matters. Students will have the opportunity to consider themselves and the world in which they live. Through outdoor activities designed to enhance their creativity and ability to think critically, students will explore their identity and place in a global village.
