Coastal Processes

Core Learning Outcomes

All students will be able to

  • identify, describe and understand how selected coastal features are formed along a designated stretch of coastline
  • develop recording and measurement skills and research how the coastline has changed over time
  • recognise that there may be different management options in some areas

Most students will be able to:

  • understand the dynamic nature of short term coastal change
  • use techniques such as EIA / cost-benefit to evaluate management strategies at selected locations
  • recognise the relative importance of selected physical and human factors in the coastal environment chosen

Some students will be able to:

  • relate the chosen stretch of coast to the shoreline management plan (SMP) for a designated littoral cell
  • discuss future issue relating to coastal zone management including the impact of climate change
