Intermediate 1 and 2
Experience shows that fieldwork can play a vital part in enthusing Intermediate students. Its 'hands on' approach supports their understanding of geography with case studies, while also developing their enquiry skills. This helps students maximise their achievement in coursework, and examinations.
As well as covering specific elements of the Course Arrangements, courses also place a strong emphasis on developing core skills and informed attitudes, with an opportunity to participate in activities relating to enterprise, health, well being and citizenship.
Physical Environment3 day
This three day course can be tailored to either intermediate 1 or 2 and focuses on elements from the Physical Environment unit.
- Introduction to geographical investigation and sampling methods
- Data collection using a range of fieldwork techniques and equipment - observation, measurement and recording
- Analysis, presentation and interpretation of data
- Upland glaciated landscape/river and its valley
- Rural land use - management and sustainability/conservation issues
- Team building and problem solving activities such as ropes challenge and orienteering
