There is enough variation in the distribution of grasses and low-growing plants along the length of Gordon Square to form the basis for an investigation into the effects of trampling. Students sample species frequency using quadrats in two contrasting areas, then use their results to consider the ways in which some plants are adapted to resist trampling.
Full support is given for pre-visit work at school, data collection in the field, and post-visit work at school to put the fieldwork in its wider context. Extensive teacher guidance, with PowerPoint presentations, a full sample risk assessment and detailed plan of a sequence of lessons, are also available for download.
