Investigation into particulate pollution

Sticky tape sampling

Summary of the investigation

In this investigation, pupils use simple equipment to take rapid measurements of particulate pollution along a belt transect to assess the extent to which vehicle emissions are dispersed with distance from the main road. The pupils sample the trees for particulates using sticky tape. Random sampling techniques are used in the laboratory for analysis.

These resources have been developed by the staff at Mile End Ecology Park in association with the London Outdoor Science project.
