Substantial evidence exists to indicate that fieldwork offers students opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in ways that add value to their everyday experiences within the classroom (source: NFER, 2004)
Yet planning fieldwork can be a daunting task. It's often impossible to take students to distant field sites. There is little practical guidance available for teachers. A realistic alternative is to carry out field activities within the school grounds or the local area.
