At Field Studies Council Epping Forest, we welcome everyone with an interest in learning more about nature and the natural world, from early years through to university students and adult learners too.
The centre is easy to reach from main transport routes, and also has access to great outdoor spaces. We have teaching sites across Epping Forest, including our own on-site ponds, mixed woodland, grassland, heath and river sites.
Would you like to come and see our facilities, speak to our knowledgeable tutors and experience some of our outdoor learning activities? Then we’d love for you to join us at one of our free open days this year.
Activities on the day will include:
- Pond dipping, Minibeast hunting and Crafting
- ID Walk – Focusing on plant and bird species, our tutor will lead you on a walk through the forest looking at species ID (Suitable for primary-aged children and above)
- Nature art – There will be a session on making art out of nature using Andy Goldsworthy as inspiration (suitable for all ages)
- Deadwood citizen science – Is the deadwood in your wood dead good? A citizen science investigation.
- Signs of Springs – Citizen science survey of signs of spring (only available on our Easter Open Day, Saturday 5th April 2025)
- Free photography sessions – These will take place at midday and 2pm with local photographer John Price. Get a taster of John’s seasonal photography courses and maybe book yourself a place on the next one.
We are opening our doors to members of the public to come and visit us:
Saturday 5th April 10am – 3pm
Friday 25th July 10am – 3pm
Our Centre Manager, Jo Vere, and the Education Team will be on hand to answer any questions you have about our school trips, family days or natural history training.
There is no need to book in advance, just come along on the day and discover our outdoor learning activities and facilities.
