We run regular marine mammal courses throughout the year delivered online and UK wide by expert tutors and follow a framework to progress your learning at a level to suit you.
Whales, dolphins and porpoises make up the mammal order of cetaceans. As well as the cetaceans, there are two species of seals breeding in the UK: the common seal and the grey seal.
Marine Mammal Courses
Our marine mammal courses are delivered by experts in the field, and will equip you with the skills and knowledge to discover more about the habits and life-cycles of Britain’s dolphins, seals, whales and more. Our beginner courses are for anyone interested in discovering and exploring the ecology of British marine mammal. You can learn how to identify the key characteristics of marine mammal and acquire or improve identification and survey skills.
Training is led by expert tutors who are passionate about the subject. Taking place at venues across the UK, or online, our courses are designed to progress your learning at a level to suit your needs. Marine Resources
The Cetaceans and Seals Guide features 25 species of seals, dolphins, porpoises and whales most likely to be seen in UK waters.
The Summer Coastal Birds Guide features 28 of the birds to spot around the coast of Britain and Ireland in the summer months.Illustrations show birds their adult summer (breeding) plumage. Accompanying text on the reverse side covers body size, summer activity and key identification characters for each species.
The Winter Coastal Birds Guide features 44 of the birds you can see around the coastline of Britain and Ireland in the winter months. Some coastal birds are resident in the UK throughout the year. Others arrive either in the summer to breed or in the winter, when they may be seen feeding in large flocks.
Our Rocky Shore Name Trail is a favourite of generations of visitors to FSC field centres. It features colour paintings of the most common limpets, mussels, periwinkles, topshells, starfish, crabs and fishes you might see, plus seaweeds, lichens and sponges.
The Seashells Guide features 40 common seashells found on the seashore in Britain and Ireland. Accompanying text describes how to identify each type of shell.
