Let your creativity be inspired by the natural world

Mixed media artwork involves more than one medium or material for one artwork. Mixed media is the term used when the artist won’t choose just one medium but has used many to create their finished piece.

Collage and sculpture are two of the most common art forms where a variety of mediums are used. You can sometimes see mixed media used in drawing and painting too.

This medium gives you the freedom to be expressive and creative in so many ways. You can create something really unique when you aren’t limited to just one medium.

Mixed media began back in the 20th Century. Artists such as Pablo Picasso were some of the first to champion the use of a variety of materials in their work. Art movements such as ‘Cubism’ and ‘Dada’ saw artists using everyday objects to portray their personal expression.

Using mixed media doesn’t have to be a daunting prospect. It can be a liberating experience for any artist or creative.

For example, to create a three-dimensional painting, you could use materials such as paper mache to build relief so your painting really comes to life. You can transform a drawing by simply using pen or ink with the addition of watercolour and even coloured pencils.

Why not give it a try under the expert guidance of our tutors at some of our stunning locations across the UK.
