Food

At Blencathra, all of our food is prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients with the emphasis on providing healthy and hearty meals for all of our guests. We use local reputable suppliers who provide ingredients of the highest quality. We have a variety of hot wholesome meals including vegetarian options, plus we have homemade cakes which are delicious to eat as an afternoon snack. We strive to maintain the high standards of our five star food hygiene rating at all times. If you have any special food requirement please let a member of staff know before you arrive at Blencathra Centre.

Don’t forget to bring a lunch box and a flask for any day trips out.

Accommodation

We believe at Blencathra that all our guests should feel welcome and at home. We realise that some of our younger guests can feel vulnerable as it’s their first time away from loved ones. We strive to achieve the best and that’s why we have friendly staff that are always on hand to help.

Blencathra Centre occupies a dramatic setting at 300m up the south facing slope of Blencathra in the Lake District National Park, and offers an unparalleled panorama across the Keswick, Helvellyn and Skiddaw areas.

Blencathra has 120 beds across three accommodation blocks: the main house, Lonscale and St Johns. We have 20 dormitory rooms, from small, medium to large dorm rooms. Thirteen twin rooms, two single rooms and seven rooms with twin beds and a bunk are perfect for families.  We have eleven rooms with an en-suite and two bedrooms that are allocated on the ground floor for easy access. All rooms have wardrobe space with hangers, a bedside table and a plug socket.

Whether you are on an adult course, with a school group or with your family, in our main house the lounge area is the perfect location for relaxing, with large panoramic views of the breath-taking Lake District mountains. Located in the main house is also a games rooms with a TV, pool table, football table, table tennis and a selection of board games. Above the games room is a licensed bar filled with local ales and spirits and another sitting area with a TV.  

Hot and cold drinking facilities are found around the Centre and Fairtrade provisions are available 24/7 in our vending machines should you need them. Available on site is also a laundry room, library, shop, weather station and an outside basketball net and picnic area.

We have seven workrooms and one that can be used as a conference room, which has spectacular views of the Lake District that you can see on our virtual tour. All have interactive whiteboards and there is excellent WiFi access. Multi-media projection facilities are also available, along with access to laptops and tablets should you need them.
