Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

National Award For Blencathra Film

Blencathra Field Centre is proud to announce that the winner of Broadcast Programme of the Year – TV, Radio, Online was Terry Abraham for Life of a Mountain: A Year on Blencathra, BBC 4.

Terry’s project was partly sponsored by The Blencathra Centre FSC and Head of Centre Tim Foster accompanied Terry to the ceremony. He said: ‘As one of the sponsors of Terry’s film Life of a Mountain Blencathra, this has been a tremendous boost in raising the profile of Blencathra, the Northern Fells, Keswick and Eden. The Blencathra film is the second of the Scafell, Blencathra and Helvellyn trilogy of iconic Lake District mountains’

The film, which sequels A Year on Scafell Pike, showcases spectacular scenes of Blencathra and the surrounding area. From spring lambs to winters snows, it will look at the lives of residents, school children and visitors to the mountain with contributions from comedian Ed Byrne, broadcaster Stuart Maconie, mountaineer Alan Hinkes OBE and record breaking fell runner Steve Birkinshaw.

The category this year was very tough with the other finalists being:

  • How a paradise island copes with the demands of modern life – Lucy Daltroff, From Our Own Correspondent, BBC Radio 4
  • Terrorism vs Tourism, You & Yours – Chas Watkin (Editor), BBC Radio 4
  • Saving Mountain Gorillas – Jon Holmes (Presenter), Unusual Productions and Talk Radio
  • Discover the other side of Florida – Amelia Island and St Augustine, Simon Calder, independent.co.uk
