Castle Head Field Centre provides extensive accommodation for large groups of all backgrounds including Orchestras, Youth Groups, Universities, Spiritual Retreats, Adult Walking Groups etc.

We are situated in extensive private grounds of 20 hectares with several on-site adventurous activities. We can provide access to our activities upon request, however they can only be used with one of our experienced tutors and would be at an additional charge. On-site activities include - rafting, canoeing, climbing, orienteering, and low ropes.

We can also offer off-site activities with our experienced tutors, which would involve an additional cost and transportation charge, should you wish to use our minibuses. These activities include, sea-level traverse, canoeing, ghyll-scrambling, walking.

Alternatively feel free to use Castle Head as a base and explore the vast amount of things the Lake District and surrounding areas has to offer.

We are an Eco-Centre and have taken many steps towards reducing our environmental impact. The Field Studies Council is committed to bringing "Environmental Understanding to All".

Please note: While we can cater for very large groups, we do request a minimum group size of 36.

If you're searching for a place to celebrate the New Year with your family, then the self catering New Year's group accommodation at the Castle Head centre could be the perfect answer. To enquire about the New Years group accommodation at Castle Head for the full break (30th December to the 1st of January), please contact the centre. Additional nights are available on request.

Group Accommodation Details
Catering: Fully catered services for all dietary needs available, as well as packed lunch making services.
Kitchen: Self catering is also considered upon specific request.
Dining Room:  Large self service dining room accommodating up to 80 in one sitting, large groups will be split into different sittings.
Sitting Room: Comfortable and cosy lounge area with open fire. TV lounge and common room areas.
TV and Music Facilities: TV lounge available. Music can be played in common rooms.
Heating/Open Fires:  Dormitory and house accommodation fully central heated with open fire in staff lounge.
Bedrooms: Mainly in dorm rooms with bunks. We also have some single and twin ensuite rooms.
Linen: All bedding is provided, however we are currently unable to provide towels.
Bathrooms: Some single and twin ensuite rooms, extensive shower and toilet blocks.
Disabled Facilities:  Whilst not a dedicated centre we have one disabled room with en suite bathroom facilities.
Children's Facilities:  We are an educational centre and have games and activites on-site for children aged 8+, however younger children are welcome.
Outdoor Facilities:  We can offer an extensive range of on-site and off-site adventurous activities.
Swimming Pool:  Not on-site, the nearest is at Kendal Leisure Centre, approx. 20mins drive.
Parking:  We have plenty of space for parking including minibuses and coaches. Large coaches are able to gain access to the Centre.
Telecom Facilities:  Poor mobile reception on-site except Vodafone. A payphone is available. We have free Wi-Fi facilities. No computer access.
Smoking:  We would discourage anyone from smoking on-site, but there is a small smoking area available outside.
Pets:  We do not accommodate pets.
Games:  Common rooms with a range of games including Jenga, Connect 4, Table Tennis, and Table Football.
