Castle Head Field Centre is one of 18 residential centres in the UK managed by the Field Studies Council, an independent educational charity that promotes environmental understanding for all with 70 years of experience.
The centre lies in its own extensive grounds between the southern fells of the Lake District and the shores of Morecambe Bay. Giving the opportunity to visit salt marshes and sand dunes as well as moorlands and high mountain fell. Within its grounds there are a wide variety of habitats, purpose built activity sites and as well as a fully equipped observatory to look at the night sky at night. The added benefit of visiting Castle Head is the opportunity to link curriculum based learning with adventurous activities within the same the same environments. Why not add a day ghyll scrambling/ canoeing to the end of your course.
The centre offers both field Studies and outdoor education including Cross Curricular, Eco-Adventure and Outdoor Activities. They carry an AALA licences for all adventurous activities and have also been awarded the Primary and Secondary Geography Quality Mark by the Geographical Association. As well as the Quality Badge by The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom by demonstrating that they consistently deliver high quality teaching and learning experiences and manage risk effectively. This means you have to complete less paperwork when visiting our Centres.
