Field Studies Council, FSC, is an environmental education charity providing informative and enjoyable opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to discover, explore, and understand the environment.
The FSC operates conveniently on the East and West of the Island of Ireland, and welcome groups and individuals for outdoor learning programmes for all ages and in a wide range of environments.
Tollymore Field Studies Centre opened in 2017, and is located at the National Outdoor Centre for Northern Ireland. Primarily offering Geography and Biology Fieldwork for schools, Tollymore is conveniently located less than 10 minutes travel time from all our fieldwork locations.
The FSC also uses Lissadell which sits on the Wild Atlantic Way, 7km north of Sligo Town. Lissadell estate offers unrivalled fieldwork locations on site; with access to woodlands, rivers, meadows, sand dunes, and beaches all within walking distance from the centre.
As well as fieldwork for schools and youth groups, both locations also offer a wide range of adult learning courses and training for teachers and outdoor leaders. These courses include Leave No Trace, foraging for food and medicine, wildlife tracking, bushcraft, campfire cooking, and other flora/fauna workshops.
FSC is an independent charity receiving no core revenue funding from statutory sources and we therefore rely on fees paid by our visitors and on the generosity of donors, trust funds and grant bodies to finance our activities.
