Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Here at Nettlecombe Court, all our food is prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients with the emphasis in providing healthy and hearty meals for all of our guests. We use reputable suppliers who provide the highest quality of food. We have a variety of hot wholesome meals including vegetarian options. We strive to maintain the high standards of our five stars food hygiene rating at all times.  If you have any special food requirements please let our office staff know before you arrive at the centre. Don’t forget to bring a lunch box and a flask for any day trips out.

At Nettlecombe Court we believe that all our guests should feel welcome and at home. We understand that some of our younger guests can feel anxious as it may be their first time away from loved ones.  We have friendly staff that are always on hand to help and we are always happy to do anything we can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

Nettlecombe Court lies in a secluded valley at the eastern edge of Exmoor National Park. The house is a striking example of a Tudor and Georgian country mansion set within its own grounds. The Centre has excellent access to the Somerset coast as well as Exmoor National Park and The Quantocks Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

All of our accommodation is in one building; altogether we are able to accommodate approximately 120 people. This is spread across two single bedrooms, three twin rooms and 18 dormitory rooms which vary in size from 4-12 beds. Eleven of the 23 rooms are en-suite and there are 4 other designated bathrooms. We have one accessible en-suite bedroom on the first floor.

We have a student common room and an adult lounge located on the first floor.

In the student common room you will find a pool table, football table, giant connect four, video arcade games and board games. With comfortable sofas and TV it is the perfect place for students to relax with their friends after a full day out in the field.

The Teachers' Lounge is an elegant mahogany panelled room with sofas, tea and coffee making facilities and a television.  In the courtyard, you will find the entrance to our bar; a small cosy room with an open fire to keep you warm after a hard day out in the field. With local ales and ciders, alongside Fair Trade and organic wines, spirits, soft drinks and snacks we have something for everyone, only serving groups over the age of 18.

We have five workrooms and all have interactive whiteboards and WiFi access.  We also have a computer room and have access to laptops and tablet computers for all educational groups.
