Enjoy a microscopists weekend at Flatford. The river Stour including the Millpond provides a good variety of Freshwater habitats and has always provided us with lots of interesting specimens including Bryozoans, Rotifers and Diatoms. In addition, there is an established dipping pond, and extensive woodland and meadow areas as well. It’s worth knowing that the centre has an excellent range of Keys and Monographs for identification.
There will be Loca and Glycerine Jelly available for making permanent and semi-permanent microscope mounts, plus an interesting range of specimens to try your hand with.
This is a self-led course.

About FSC Flatford Mill
We have four buildings that are used for visitor accommodation. Whilst most rooms are either en-suite or have a dedicated bathroom, there are some rooms in The Mill that share showers and toilets at the end of the hall. If this is unsuitable for you please make the office staff aware upon booking or as soon as possible.
Please be aware that you are visiting a Field Centre that caters in the main for school parties; the accommodation is basic and dormitory style, but warm and comfortable.
