Writing the Wild

This course will encourage you to creatively respond, through writing, to the natural landscape and any wildlife you encounter while exploring the inspiring coastline around Dale Fort. Guided by Susan Richardson and the writing prompts which she will provide, you will spend time walking and enjoying focused periods of writing on nature themes, sparked by the material you gather. At both the beginning and end of the day there will also be an indoor session, when you will learn valuable writing techniques and receive helpful feedback on what you create, in a fun and supportive setting. Both beginners and more experienced writers are very welcome. You will have the opportunity to experiment with both prose and poetry if you wish, or to concentrate on your choice of genre. Please bring a notebook and pen/pencils as well as waterproofs and walking boots/sturdy shoes. This course runs on Saturday 26 October starting at 9.30am and can easily be combined with the Autumn Digital Photography course running earlier in the week. Alternatively you can participate as a day visitor or make a weekend visit and stay Friday to Sunday at a reduced cost. Day course price: £60 (includes lunch and refreshments) Fiday - Sunday price: £150 single room, includes course and 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast £140 shared room, includes course and 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast.

Susan Richardson is a Pembrokeshire-based poet, performer, educator and editor, whose four poetry collections, Creatures of the Intertidal Zone, Where the Air is Rarefied, skindancing and Words the Turtle Taught Me are all published by Cinnamon Press. In addition to her recent residency with the Marine Conservation Society, she is currently poet-in-residence with both the global animal welfare initiative, World Animal Day, and the British Animal Studies Network, facilitated by the University of Strathclyde. Susan has performed at festivals throughout the UK, on BBC 2, Radio 4 and at universities both nationally and internationally. She co-edits Zoomorphic, the digital literary magazine that publishes work in celebration and defence of wild animals. www.susanrichardsonwriter.co.uk
