Wales became an essential part of the picturesque tour so that the splendour of nature could be captured by the newly developing medium of watercolour. Such exponents as Turner, Cotman and Constable captured the landscape and fleeting weather conditions with an unrivalled skill and sense of vision. By following their basic methods and techniques you will develop your own painting or at least gain insight into future possibilities. If you have never painted before, by the end of the course, you will have an understanding of the medium and you will be able to appreciate the work of others and aspects of nature with a more informed eye. The course is a mixture of the practical and theory so it would be wise to be mindful of the variety of weather conditions we call the British summer.

David Johnson is a graduate of Goldsmiths College with many years’ experience of tutoring courses to different groups.
