Join local printmaker Hester Cox on this fun workshop that will show participants that you don’t need expensive studio equipment to be able to create lovely prints. Hester will demonstrate how to make stamps, relief collagraphs and monoprints so that you end the day full of ideas and go home with lots of your own handmade prints.

Printmaking is a wonderful way of creating exciting and often repeatable images using a myriad of techniques but people are often put off by the thought that it requires specialist studio equipment that is expensive and takes up lots of space. Hester Cox is a local printmaker and she will show participants that this need not be the case and that it is perfectly possible to become a printmaker with little more than a kitchen table to work on and a tube of ink!

Throughout the day, Hester will discuss and demonstrate techniques and participants will have a chance to have a go themselves. The day will start with some simple monotype printing to get everyone loosened up and the ideas flowing and then she will show you how to create some interesting and textural collagraph printing blocks using found objects and materials that you may have lying around in your house or shed. You will also learn a variety of stamp making methods and all of these methods can be used on their own or combined to create more complex imagery. You will then have time to ‘play’ and try printing your stamps and collagraphs onto different papers and surfaces.

No previous experience is required and the workshop is suitable for complete beginners. Inks, paper and all other materials are included incourse fee. However, if you have items that you wish to bring along to print with, you are more than welcome to do so. Some examples may include ribbons, lace, feathers, leaves, sketches or images for inspiration etc. but there is no requirement to bring these as Hester will have a range of items with her.

Hester has a BA (hons) in Illustration and works from her studio in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Her colourful and richly textured limited-edition collagraph prints reflect her appreciation of the natural landscape. She is a member of Leeds Fine Artists, Printmakers Circle, Printmaking Online and Ålgården Studios in Sweden. Awards include an Extending Practice Award from Chrysalis Arts in 2011, which allowed her to work with the Mercer Gallery and the British and Yorkshire Museum, and she was one of ten artists selected to take part in Mirror Images, an international printmaking exhibition, which ran simultaneously in North Yorkshire, Scotland, Finland and Sweden in 2015.
