2018 Young Darwins Welcomed to FSC
FSC's Young Darwin Scholarship is supporting young people with a keen interest in our natural world, helping to develop future 'Darwins'.
Last month the latest cohort of 15 Young Darwin Scholars (YDS) met for their introductory five day residential, taking place in at FSC Preston Montford, just outside Darwin's hometown of Shrewsbury.
The group of young people came from across the UK, with a mixture of knowledge and varying areas of interest, all keen to learn more during their stay.
Their time at Preston Montford was packed with a wide variety of activites including moth trapping, visiting the nearby Stiperstones, canoeing on the River Severn, birdwatching and a exploring the on-site bee hotel.
During their stay the Scholars benefitted from the knowledge of several experts with a wide variey of specialisms.
On the last day, the Young Darwin’s all received their Young Darwin Scholarship Certificates presented by CEO Mark Castle. Mark particularly enjoyed awarding the scholars as this was the first cohort he has presented to since joining the FSC as CEO in February. A great ending to the excellent five days enjoyed by all.
Following on from the residential the Young Darwin Scholars continue to receive support from FSC and further events such as reunion trips, discounted training and visits.
