Participating in Packham’s UK BioBlitz
FSC staff at several of our locations have really enjoyed being part of Chris Packham’s UK BioBlitz over the last few days.
He visited FSC Rhyd-y-creuau in Snowdonia for a full day of bioblitzing, which resulted in some amazing findings including bats, millipedes and tardigrades.
Chris also met our staff at sites in Scotland and Shropshire where more bioblitzes were happening.
FSC’s Biodiversity Education Officer said “It was brilliant to be involved with this initiative, at FSC we often carry out bioblitzes and other ways of monitoring the environment such as moth trapping so it’s very much at our heart. I also thought it was fantastic to see FSC’s range of identification charts being so well used by lots of those who came along.”
Bioblitzs gather together people to identify as much wildlife as possible within a time period. This fantastic tour taken by Chris and his team across the UK took in 50 sites and will provide an excellent benchmark of wildlife records, which can be measured against in future years. It finished yesterday with results to follow.
