Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Small Group Courses

We are running these courses, to join small groups together so you do not have to pay the minimum group fee of 10 students.

These courses are designed for your students to do their NEA, collecting independent fieldwork data and cover the four days of compulsory fieldwork during a five day course. The course will not be specification lead, the group will be made up of a mixture of specifications.

All our Centres have been awarded the Quality Badge by The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom. This means that you will have less paperwork to complete when visiting our Centres.

Included within the course is:

  • Expert tuition by fully trained permanent staff.
  • Rigorous and proven health and safety procedures including 24 hour emergency cover and access to risk assessments.
  • All equipment and resources needed.
  • Full board accommodation.
  • Transport to all field sites.

"We booked our 5 students onto the FSC Geography A level Coursework small group course at Nettlecombe Court in December 2017.  We front loaded the content teaching of the A level to free up more time for coursework in December – February of Year 13.  The timing in December of Y13 meant that students were more used to writing at A level standard and started their write up with a mature writing style.

Initially our students were reticent at mixing with those from other schools but our FSC tutor ensured that students rotated around groups to work with everyone.  By the end of the first day, the group had ‘bonded’ and had set up a social media group, where 10 weeks later, they are still discussing their coursework.

The course had schools from different exam boards but the focus on student independence, along with the FSC tutor’s familiarity with the specifications for each course, meant that this was not an issue and by the end of day 3, all students had planned their own key questions and by the end of day 4 had collected their own data for their coursework."

I would definitely recommend this course – our students found it invaluable.
