Introduction to GIS day

This session aims to introduce pupils to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with the use of Google Earth. Students will learn about GIS and why it is so important in today’s world. They will work through a series of Google Earth activities, before applying their new knowledge to create a map representing fieldwork data.

Emergency 999 day

This session aims to further student’s map reading skills and to understand how maps are used in decision making. Students take on the roles of police officers in a control room, and must decide what action to take following a road traffic accident. The only information they will receive is in the form of regular incident reports. They must use a map to locate the accident and minimise any further risks while helping the victims of the crash.
