Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Geography

The new Junior Cycle Geography curriculum supports student participation in the outdoors as part of short tailor-made field investigations. FSC Derrygonnelly is excited to offer field courses which support teachers and students to carry out field studies at a range of carefully selected field sites where they can gain knowledge, experience and understanding of applied geographical skills outlined in the syllabus.

With expert tuition by one of our field tutors we will support teachers and encourage students whilst covering a number of the key elements and geographical concepts at the core of the JC and LC cycles. These courses not only help support classroom-based learning back at school, but provide students with the opportunity to apply theory in a real-world context and gain new skills at the same time.

The role of people and society and their engagement with the world around them is ever more important as we find new ways to explore and innovate in the field of Geography. Fieldwork and first-hand experience in the outdoors are great ways to encourage students to actively engage with course content, connect with the landscape, and gain a greater appreciation of the natural world and processes.
