Due to Covid-19 we have had to cancel courses from March to 1st August, we hope you will find an event later in the year that you can attend.
This is an opportunity to discover the unique yet primal pleasure of Dot painting. There is peace and relaxation to be found in the meditative process of creating a mandala design in dots of paint. Katharine will guide you step by step through the process of using acrylic paints and dotting tools to create a rainbow mandala on canvas. With Katharines’ expert guidance you will learn how to prepare your canvas, plot and create your mandala without the need for a template, you will also learn how to mix the paint to the correct consistency and how to use the relationship of colour and different sized dots to create a circular mandala pattern. Students are invited to bring along a smooth rock or pebble to paint if time allows. Please note this is a beginners course and is suitable for all abilities.
Tutor: Katharine Moore
Katharine Moore lives in coastal Suffolk, with her beloved daughter Lily and their cats Basil and Persimmon. She have been an Artist/Maker/Picture Framer for the last 26 years. She set up Stripey Cat's Studio in 1999 and the rest is history! She loves practising the art of Dotillism and Mandala-making and have been practising this art form for the past 5 years and teaching it for the last 3 years. The art comes from the heart and colour is what makes her heart sing the most. She is fascinated by indigenous decorative art and over the years have created many pieces based on studies of North African, Moroccan, Indian and Australasian native art. She says, ‘each piece of art I create I learn something new about myself and the world around me. People have described my work as colourful, humorous, uplifting, sentimental and it is very much aimed at the adult/child in us all’.
On the day
The workshop will begin with an introduction to the meaning of mandala followed by canvas preparation and marking the canvas to begin painting. Following this we will be talking about the paints and tools we will be using and how we will be creating our mandalas by using dots of paint. You will also be given a "practice" card to paint on until you get to grips with the tools we use. Katharine will be moving around the group giving guidance on pattern techniques, spatial awareness and distributing colours of acrylic paint to each student in order of the rainbow, she will also be on hand to help with any difficulties that may crop up...At the end of the day you will have a finished Rainbow Mandala on Canvas to take home to treasure and be mesmerised by forever more!
