He has worked for a number of conservation organisations including RSPB, Natural England, the National Trust and Shropshire Wildlife Trust. During his time at the latter, he became Chairman of Shropshire Mammal Group and successfully raised funding to run Shropshire Pine Marten Project, which was incorporated into his job role. In 2015 the project recorded the first evidence of pine martens in Shropshire for over 100 years and continues to watch the status of the species in Shropshire.
The project has allowed him to hone his mammal tracking and camera trapping skills and he regularly runs community training events to give more people the knowledge to monitor their local mammals and understand their ecology.
He has also coordinated surveys for badgers, otters, dormouse is currently county coordinator for the National Harvest Mouse Monitoring Scheme. At present, Stuart is a self employed ecologist with a focus on mammals and birds, but still runs training sessions, guided walks and occasional field visits for university students
