Geography is all about the question ‘why here?’
This residential is set in the stunning quintessential Constable Country in the Dedham Vale AONB, Suffolk where you will meet other like-minded geography students from around the country and use a range of geographical approaches to explore our complex relationship to this landscape.
Our residentials also give you the chance to develop a range of transferable skills. These types of skills help across many areas of life and are particularly good for including in job or education applications.

This course meets the Duke of Edinburgh Award criteria for those students who are wanting to complete their Gold residential.
This course is open to young people aged 16-25. When you book, it is essential that you enter the age and attendees name in the Order Notes at the checkout. If the attendee is under 18, the booking must be made by a parent/guardian.

Tutor: Field Studies Council Staff
Courses are led by experienced Field Studies Council staff.
Our centres are operated in a fully Covid-secure way and accommodation will be in suitably shared rooms based on the current government guidance.

Day 1
Arrive-1200
Welcome, introductions, lunch and icebreakers to support getting to know the other young people on the course.
Geography immersion session.
An evening of team activities which could include team games, orienteering challenges or a campfire social.
Day 2
Full day investigating glacial landscapes or investigation physical fieldwork visiting the stunning coastline to investigate coastal processes, landforms and management.
Workshop – data analysis/statistical analysis
Day 3
Investigating cultural landscapes or Full day investigation human (one of: urban QoL, regen, rural regen).
Guest Speaker or workshop data presentation/GIS skills
Day 4
Natural hazards or Two half day sessions looking at carbon and water systems and the interactions between them.
Themes could include; Trees, Peat, Carbon - climate change.
Career exploration or campfire end of course celebration.
Day 5
Undertake small scale local investigations as a progression of what they have learnt throughout the week. These mini- investigations will then be presented to the rest of the group.
Reflect on course achievements and outcomes.
