Dates are being revised due to Covid-19

Absolutely no experience necessary, this introduction to watercolour landscape will start in the classroom learning about colour mixing, tone, how to introduce life into your work, layering your paint working from light to dark. The afternoon will be spent outdoors painting trees, water and structures. Linda’s teaching is not ‘step-by-step’ thus allowing her to tutor a group of mixed abilities; she will demonstrate a technique or subject and you will then have a go. Her painting techniques follow traditional rules which she believes you have to know before you break them! The morning will be spent painting indoors, including watercolours with and without drawing, looking at skies, trees, water, tone, perspective and creating movement with your brush marks. The afternoon will be spent outdoors painting the landscape including trees, water and structures, learning how to create layers and distance in your painting.

Tutor: Linda Matthews

Linda Matthews has worked as a full time artist and tutor for 18 years. She is inspired by everything around her, she enjoys sharing the essentials of painting in the studio so you can experience fully the freedom of painting from life - en plein air - out of doors. She works professionally in most media. Her philosophy for painting is ‘Wherever you look there is something to paint. You can never be bored with a pencil, a sketchbook and a paintbox’.
