Be Inspired – explore and discover

A course for a creative painting experience using water-based media (acrylics, watercolours, gouache) which can be positively dynamic especially when mixed with additional materials – come with an open mind and enjoy yourself.

You will be shown how to:

  • Try to capture the essence of a moment rather than realistic rendition
  • Be open to spontaneity and imagination
  • Use a colour wheel to help select a dynamic colour palette
  • Understand what your paints will do – give yourself time to play as part of the planning process. Find out their characteristics and what happens when they are mixed.
  • Contrast dark against light or soft edges against hard
  • Mixing up the media to explore the capability of your materials with freedom of expression
  • Plan your painting – do thumbnails to check composition
  • Use unusual materials to create visual texture e.g. sand, bandage, threads, texture pastes

Do you have those ‘failures’ building an indiscreet pile in the corner? – don’t throw them away – there is always something in them worth keeping, cropping, using to collage another work – try to think of them as incubating not festering.
